ARG! founder Artie Romero remembers how tough it was to get started in the industry. He simply couldn't find a studio that offered internships. In 1981, he was lucky to get a few breaks, and after 13 years of animating for TV, software and movies, he rebranded his studio as ARG! Cartoon Animation in 1994. The ARG! crew immediately accepted a few talented animation students as interns, giving them opportunities to work on commercials, character design, corporate videos and more. They received screen credits, and we helped them get professional work after their internships. Today, many former ARG! interns' careers are well-established, with blockbuster movie credits, TV credits, awards and IMDb recognition.
In 2009 the ARG! studio created our online internship program so we could offer more aspiring artists and animators the opportunity to work remotely on professional productions and network with animators, artists, directors and other professionals.
The requirements? Besides an intense love of animation, the ability to meet deadlines and produce professional quality work, you need to have a reliable, high speed internet connection and a Skype account.
So why not apply? We'd love to see your stuff. If you're accepted, you'll get a paid internship with a written contract. You'll also receive coaching, studio experience, and if your work passes muster, screen credits. Our online internship doesn't require you to relocate or commute to our studios. We have meetings on Skype and by phone, give feedback regarding assignments, and sometimes use Skype screen sharing to show our interns how to do things. Once in a while we have special guests in our Skype conferences, professionals who are stars in the animation industry.
